Mega Development Push in Odisha
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a wide range of projects in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district, marking one of the state’s biggest infrastructure and welfare drives. The projects, with a total value exceeding Rs 60,000 crore, cover multiple sectors including telecom, railways, healthcare, education, skill development and rural housing. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati were present during the ceremony, alongside several Union ministers and state leaders who joined virtually.
Green Telecom Expansion
Among the highlights was the inauguration of over 97,500 4G mobile towers built at a cost of Rs 37,000 crore using indigenous technology. Of these, more than 92,600 sites were set up by BSNL. The initiative will extend 4G connectivity to over 26,700 previously unconnected villages in remote, border and left-wing extremism-affected areas. These towers are powered by solar energy, making them the largest cluster of green telecom sites in India and a major step toward digital inclusion.
Boost for Railways and Connectivity
PM Modi also laid the foundation stone for critical railway infrastructure including the Sambalpur–Sarla rail flyover, doubling of the Koraput–Baiguda line and the Manabar–Koraput–Gorapur line. These upgrades are expected to ease passenger and freight movement, boosting regional trade and industry.
In addition, the Prime Minister flagged off the Amrit Bharat Express connecting Berhampur in Odisha with Surat in Gujarat. The new train service is aimed at offering affordable travel, supporting tourism, and generating employment opportunities across states.
Healthcare and Education Upgrades
Healthcare in Odisha received a major boost with plans to upgrade MKCG Medical College in Berhampur and VIMSAR in Sambalpur into world-class super-speciality hospitals. The facilities will feature advanced trauma care, maternal and child health units, dental colleges and expanded bed capacity, ensuring better healthcare access for the people of the state.
In education, PM Modi announced the expansion of eight IITs across India, which will create space for 10,000 additional students in the next four years. The government also launched several initiatives in Odisha to strengthen technical education and skill development for the youth, ensuring that they are better prepared for future employment opportunities.
Support for Women and Rural Families
Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi praised the Prime Minister for introducing schemes like the Subhadra Yojana, under which more than one crore women in the state receive Rs 10,000 annually in financial support. PM Modi also distributed sanction orders to 50,000 beneficiaries under the Antyodaya Gruha Yojana, a housing scheme for vulnerable families including widows, people with disabilities, terminally ill patients and disaster victims.
Building a Stronger Future
The event showcased India’s commitment to balanced regional growth, combining digital connectivity, healthcare, education, transport and welfare under a unified development agenda. The projects are expected to create jobs, empower communities and transform Odisha into a hub of opportunity.
